Hey!

So yes...another Chicky fic. This is what happens when it's 3 am and I can't sleep. My mind races with thoughts of Karevs and I think up new plots. Then I get up and write and write and write.

This is a fic about Alex's childhood. It's rated 14 +, but will contain scenes of violence as well as references to it.

I'm posting it soonish.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

It was six o’clock in the morning and Alex Karev woke up to the sounds of his football shaped alarm clock going off. He groaned a little, not wanting to be awake at such an early hour, but he knew that he had an important job to do. People were counting on him.

He opened his closet to discover that there weren’t any clean clothes in it except for the ones with all the stains that were only meant for wearing at home. He closed it back up and made his way to the bathroom where he saw the over-flowing hamper. No one had gotten around to doing laundry yet – making it his job.

He began to carry armloads of dirty clothing down the stairs since his seven-year-old arms were not strong enough to carry the hamper. He could’ve woken his mother up to do it, and he knew she would’ve but she deserved the rest she was finally getting.

Twelve armloads later, it was all downstairs and ready to be sorted out and washed. Once that was done, he climbed up on top the washing machine and reached over to the shelf beside it to get the heavy detergent bottle down. He opened it up before he hopped down and threw the clothes into the machine. He was much too short to be able to just put them in like his mother did, so he had to throw them up and hope they landed inside of the machine. When it all was, he climbed up and tried to carefully pour the detergent in. He closed it up and turned the machine on.

He then headed back upstairs. His mother was still asleep on the couch, so he had to go wake his little sister. He went up to her room and opened the door which had been labelled “Princess Carrie’s Room,” with a little pink sign.

“Carrie…” he whispered, standing on his tip toes to reach inside the crib and remove the blanket from his fourteen-month-old sister’s back. “Time to get up, Baby,” he told her. He lifted the twenty pound toddler out of her out of the crib carefully with both of his little hands. “You’re heavy,” he told her. She whined a little and rubbed her big brown eyes with her chubby fists. “Shh…” he told her.

He plopped her down on her pink carpeted floor and found a pacifier sitting on the rocking chair that he gave her. “There,” he said. He sat down on the floor with her. “Mommy’s sleepin’ still and I don’t think Daddy’s home, so it’s me and you until Mommy gets up. Lay down so I can change your diaper, please.” He couldn’t reach her very well when she was on the change table, so he had figured out how to change her on the floor. She laid down. “Thanks,” he said. He got up and got a new diaper for her and some wipes. He struggled as she wiggled around to change the diaper, but he did it.

“All right,” he said. “Our clothes are getting cleaned, so for now we’ll go have breakfast. Let’s go downstairs.”

He and Carrie slowly made it down the stairs after he demonstrated how she should crawl. “Good girl,” he said giving her a kiss on the cheek.

He left her there while he found a half full container of yogurt and a banana in the kitchen. He brought it out to her in the living room with a spoon. “Care, c’mere. Let’s eat.”

“Yeah,” she smiled.

“Yeah,” he repeated as she sat down next to him. He looked up and saw that his mom was still fast asleep. Her eye was red and bruised and that alone told him that he was right not to wake her. She needed the sleep. “But let Mommy sleep, ‘kay?” he whispered as he fed her some yogurt.

“Yeah,” she agreed.

His mom stirred anyway. “Alex?” she asked rubbing her eyes. “What time is it?” He didn’t answer because he was not yet able to tell time on anything but a digital clock. She got up and turned the lights on. "Seven o’clock,” she answered herself. Alex started school at eight o’clock.

“I started the laundry,” he told her. “Everything was dirty,” he explained. “’Cept the at-home clothes.”

She smiled proud of her son, but really it made Anna sad that her second grader had to do the laundry and feed his sister. “Thanks, Alex,” she said. “I’ll take over now.”

“Dad’s not home,” he told her. “Go take a shower before he makes you take one with him.”

“Thanks,” she replied. She was still glad that her little boy didn’t know exactly what was happening in those showers his father forced her to take with him.

“I’ll feed her,” he offered.

“You’re the best big brother,” she praised him.

“I’m just helping,” he said.

“Make sure you eat too,” she told him.

“I will,” he replied. “When she gets full.”

“You want me to put her in the highchair for you?”

“It’s okay like this.”

“Okay,” she replied. She went downstairs and quickly put the load of laundry Alex had done in the dryer. She put in a second load before going back upstairs. She kissed both of her children before heading up to take a shower all by herself.

Wow. I'm gob-smacked. It's amazing.

Thanks. Apparently I do good writing at 3 am lol

Oh, and I wanna clarify something about Anna. She does not, in any way expect Alex to be doing laundry or caring for Baby Carrie. She's just being so broken down by his dad that she'll take whatever help she can get. It's not her telling him to do any of this. It's poor seven year old Alex seeing that it needs to be done and wanting to do everything he can to ease his mother's worries.

Totally understand.

Can't wait for updates.

Carrie wandered around the living room, coming back to take a few bites every few minutes when Alex would call her name distracting her from the toy she was playing with. “You done?” he asked her when she stopped coming back for more.

“Yeah,” she nodded.

“Okay,” he replied. He ate the rest of the container of yogurt and finished off the banana himself.

When his mother got out of the shower – which she enjoyed for a little longer than she should have – she went down to the basement and got her children clothes to wear for the day.

She dressed Carrie while Alex got dressed. Carrie had a little picture book in her hand. “You like reading?” she asked. Carrie laughed a happy laugh and looked up at her mommy. “Hi, Pretty Girl,” Anna smiled. “Will you let me put a little pony in your hair today? You’re going to Nana’s house and she likes it when you look pretty.”

“Mommy…” Alex said opening his sister’s bedroom door. “I need help with my Spelling.”

Anna sighed. The previous night had been a rough one for the family and homework had been the last thing she thought about. “Don’t worry about it today.”

“Miss Woods says that if I don’t do it one more time, I have to stay in for recess.”

“I’ll write her a note, ‘kay?” she replied.

“Okay.”

“I’m taking your sister to Nana’s today, so we have to leave soon.”

“Daddy’s still not home today.”

“I know,” she nodded. “Go repack your bag for school. I’ll put the note in in a minute.”

“Okay.”

Alex went off to get his things together while Anna did Carrie’s hair. “There we go,” she said when it was done. “Pretty.”

“Pity?”

“Very pretty,” she nodded forcing a smile. She put her down. “Now,” she said. “Nana also likes it when she can’t see Mommy’s bobos. So I’m gonna get some make-up on and then write Alex’s note and then we’ll go to Nana’s. ‘Kay? You play a little bit.”

She went into her room and did her best to cover the marks her husband has left on her face. The rest of her body was covered by her clothing, so that was the easy part, but she had learned to become quite the make-up artist to cover the red welts on her face.

This was especially the case on days like today when Carrie was spending the day at his mother’s house. His mother fully knew about the abuse but chose not to pay any attention to it. Her son could do no wrong in her eyes, and she didn’t want to see anything to the contrary on her daughter-in-law’s face. Even the kids always had to be perfectly presentable when it came to her or she would accuse Anna of being a bad parent.

But by the time she was finished applying the make-up, she realized it was time to leave. Alex would be late for school and she would be late for work if they didn’t leave now.

“But you didn’t write my note,” Alex told her as he got in the car.

“I’m sorry, Alex,” she apologized. “If there’s time, I’ll run in and talk to Miss Woods.”

“Okay,” he said. “Mom?”

“What?”

“You should wear sunglasses today,” he said. He could still tell that her eye was swollen.

“You’re right,” she nodded, putting a pair on. “I should.”

Poor Anna, Alex & Carrie are sweet in this fic (It feels weird saying the words Alex and sweet, because I usually say Alex is hot, but we can't say that can we )

I think Alex is a totally sweetie. He tries to hide it (on the show) but he is. He's also hot. But in this fic he's 7, so not quite yet lol

Anna pulled up into her mother-in-laws long driveway and the car came to a stop. Alex took off his seatbelt and got out. “Go ahead,” his mother told him as she opened the door on Carrie’s side.

“Okay,” he said walking up to his Nana’s house.

As Anna took Carrie out of the car, she saw that the little girl had pulled out her ponytail and that her hair was now a mess. “Oh, Carrie Marie,” she said. She kissed her cheek. “What am I gonna do with you, huh? Oh, well.” She didn’t have time to fix it before her husband’s mother saw.

“Hi, Carrie!” Joyce Karev smiled as Anna entered the house with the baby. Alex was already in the house and she had already greeted him. “Oh, your hair’s messy again, isn’t it?”

“She took it out in the car,” Anna said trying to just put up with the fact that she was being judged yet again.

“Mommy, you didn’t put a note in my backpack yet,” Alex told Anna.

“Oh, yeah,” Anna remembered. “Okay, get out your agenda,” she told her son, who was already unzipping his Spiderman bag. “And a pencil or something. I’ll write it.”

“What?” Joyce asked.

“Homework didn’t get done last night,” she explained. “And he doesn’t wanna get in trouble.”

“Oh.”

“Here,” Alex said as he handed his agenda book and a blue coloured pencil to his mother.

Anna put Carrie down and quickly wrote a little note. She cringed as she signed it “Mrs. Karev.

She gave Alex his book and coloured pencil back and he placed them inside the backpack. He gasped as he realized something. “I don’t have a lunch,” he told her.

Anna looked up at Joyce. She had done nothing right so far and it was all very obvious. “Oh,” she said. Then she had to swallow her pride. “Would you mind picking him up at lunchtime? Or dropping something off at the school?”

“Sure,” Joyce agreed.

“Thanks,” she said. “Okay, Bud,” she told Alex. “Say ‘bye’ to Nana and Carrie.”

“Bye,” he replied. He gave Carrie a kiss, but turned away before Joyce could put her arms around him. Even though he was so young he knew exactly what his nana thought of his mom and he didn’t like it. Sure, Anna made mistakes, but she was going through horrible things on a daily basis. She was not perfect, but she was doing what she could to keep her family going.

“Bye,” Joyce smiled. “I’ll be there to pick you up at lunch.”

With that Anna kissed her daughter and forced a smile for Joyce before leaving with Alex. “All right,” Joyce said to Carrie as soon as they closed the door. “Let’s fix your hair,” she said. Carrie was still holding the pink ponytail in her little hand. She took it from her and redid the ponytail. “Mommy’s clueless, huh?” she asked Carrie. “She lets you look all messy and she forgets to give Alex lunch and help with his homework. That’s not being a very good mommy, is it?”

I don't like Joyce very much. Anna is going through so much, Joyce is just too blind to see that her son is causing it.

I love Anna though, she seems really nice (oh, and I can't forget about Alex & Carrie)

Joyce knows almost all of what Anna and the kids are going through. She just refuses to face it because she thinks her son is perfect.
